Rumor That Norwegian Cruise Line To Order New Ships From Fincantieri
According to local news in Italy, Norwegian Cruise Line could be on the verge of a major cruise ship order with Fincantieri.
Fincantieri which is an Italian ship building company famous for building the majority of Carnival Corporation ships could be about to land not just one cruise ship order but six! NCL which has mainly been ordering ships from Meyer Werft in Papenburg, Germany could be changing ship builders.
Of course this news which is being reported is not confirmed and might not even come to light. If it’s also being reported by Cruise Industry News then there is a high possibility the order could be happening.
The newly ordered ships are set to be 130,000 gross tonnes and cost $700 Million each. At least one of the ships is set to be delivered to Norwegian Cruise Line by 2022 and built at the Fincantieri Marghera shipyard.
Cruise Hive will keep readers informed on any new cruise ship orders by NCL. At the moment the cruise line has three Breakaway Plus class ships on order with Meyer Werft in Germany, the ships are scheduled to be delivered in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Italian Media: Fincantieri About to Land Norwegian Ship Order
Italian media reports claim that Fincantieri is poised to land a major ship order from Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings.
Affaritaliani.it, an online Italian newspaper based in Milan, reports that the order will be for six megaships with deliveries of the 130,000-ton vessels starting in 2022.
Norwegian has built its current class of ships at Meyer Werft, and previously, the Epic at STX France.
However, a new management team in place since early 2015 led by Frank del Rio has extensive experience building ships at Fincantieri for the Regent and Oceania brands.
A Norwegian spokesperson said the company does not comment on rumors.
